EuroGOOS
Advancing Operational Oceanography Across Europe
EuroGOOS is the European component of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) of UNESCO. Based in Brussels, it brings together 48 members and supports five regional systems to strengthen and coordinate ocean observations. By identifying priorities, fostering collaboration, and promoting the value of operational oceanography, EuroGOOS drives the sustained measurements needed to deliver fit-for-purpose marine services.
Activities
Following the EuroGOOS value chain approach, activities encompass all relevant thematic elements of operational oceanography development:
- Data collection and management is studied by EuroGOOS DataMEQ Working Group
- Modelling and applications for coastal areas are considered by Coastal Working Group
- Emerging biological oceanography is developed through the Biology Working Group
- Technological advances and priorities are addressed by the Technology Plan Working Group
- Scientific recommendations on the operational oceanographic developments are provided by the Science Advisory Working Group
- The societal engagement is boosted through the Ocean Literacy Working Group
